Nighean Riabhaich Dhomhnaill

Nighean Riabhaich Dhomhnaill (The Jealous Sister)
Patchwork live at Sound Symposium XVIII
St. John’s Newfoundland, July 2016

Ballads on the theme of the jealous sister are common in many Northern European languages. In this Scottish Gaelic version, a woman calls from the shore where her sister has taken her to drown. “Oh, do you not have pity on me?” asks the woman of her sister, “They will find me drowned, with my brown hair floating on the top of the sea.”
